Choosing a swimsuit is usually a matter of fashion, but deep down, it is a critical safety decision. Blue, light blue, white, and green colors visually disappear just half a meter below the surface due to the way water absorbs light. To keep family members—especially the youngest ones—always in sight, clothing must be in contrasting colors like bright orange, hot pink, or neon yellow. The psychological magnetism of objects

A common habit on rest days is leaving toys floating after the swimming session is over. These objects act as irresistible visual magnets for children, who might approach the edge trying to reach them during moments when there is no active supervision. Removing absolutely all items from the water and the perimeter once playtime ends completely eliminates this silent, attractive danger.

The hidden risk of giant inflatables

Oversized floats and inflatables with striking shapes seem harmless, but they generate two distinct risk dynamics. First, they create large blind spots on the surface that make it impossible to see what is happening underneath them. Second, their sheer volume turns them into unstable platforms against unexpected gusts of wind, which can flip them over and disorient anyone playing nearby. Limiting their use to shallow areas facilitates continuous visual control.

The involuntary respiratory reflex

Jumping in abruptly on a very hot day is a common practice, but the sudden temperature change triggers an involuntary biological response called the “gasp reflex.” If this instinctive gasp occurs exactly at the moment the face hits the surface, liquid is automatically inhaled. Fostering the habit of wetting the back of the neck, wrists, and face before full immersion deactivates this reflex, allowing for a much smoother and safer entry into the water for the body.

Water that remains healthy is in constant motion, which generates small, continuous currents toward the circulation points in the deepest areas. Long, loose hair can be subtly drawn by these invisible currents. The simple habit of tying hair back into tight braids or buns before swimming completely neutralizes any risk of entanglement underwater, allowing everyone to enjoy the water with total freedom and peace of mind.
